DP, from Darkes Lane, Potters Bar, “felt ashamed” of himself, after pleading guilty to three charges of indecent exposure.

On September 21, October 1 and October 7 this year, P, 25, showed his genitals to young girls walking through The Line Path, a walkway close to Potters Bar railway station.

On all three occasions, he was holding his mobile phone in one hand, and on two occasions, he openly masturbated in front of the young victims.

I wonder if a newspaper will ever quote the title of the offence properly. From the number of times the press and police talk of "indecent exposure" it's not surprising everyone thinks there is a law with that name.

It is clear that the press cannot distinguish between this sort of offence, which is just what the Sexual Offences Act offence of Exposure was intended to prevent, and non-sexual non-confrontational nudity such as in sunbathing, swimming or walking in unpopulated places. Being naked is not "indecent exposure".
